JACKSON, Miss. - Senior
Tommy Johnson scored 24 points and nine rebounds but that wasn't enough as Texas
Wesleyan dropped its second straight game, losing to Tougaloo, 90-79, Friday evening
at Rugg Arena.
Texas
Wesleyan (0-2) took a 47-43 lead into the break on the strength of 13 points from
Johnson and 10 points from junior Khayri McKinney.
In
the second half, the Rams opened up with an alley-oop from junior Brad Schilder
to Johnson to take a six-point lead.
Tougaloo
(3-1) then went on a 15-6 run over the next five minutes to take a 58-55 lead
with 13:45 remaining in the game.
A jumper
at the 3:36 mark gave the Bulldogs a 10-point cushion and closed the game out.
 Junior
Ben Hunt totaled 14 points, while Schilder chipped in 11 and McKinney added 10.
Schilder and McKinney added four assists each.
The
Rams had 17 turnovers compared to eight for Tougaloo. The Bulldogs outrebounded
Texas Wesleyan, 43-38.
Texas Wesleyan shot
46 percent (26-57) from the field and 28 percent (7-25) from behind the arc. The
Rams also shot 69 percent (20-29) from the free-throw line.
Tougaloo
shot 47 percent (33-70) from the floor and 32 percent (8-25) from the three-point
line. The Bulldogs also shot 53 percent (16-30) from the charity stripe.
Texas
Wesleyan takes on tournament-host, Belhaven Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set
for 4 p.m. at Rugg Arena.
