DALLAS, Texas - Ben Hunt was
named RRAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the dates
of Jan. 2-8. He shares the award with Texas A&M-International's
Keith Simpson.
Hunt, a junior guard from Bendigo, Australia,
helped Wesleyan topple ninth-ranked Louisiana State University-Shreveport
and posted a triple-double to lead the Rams to the top of the RRAC.
In the 109-100 defeat of LSU-Shreveport, he scored 24 points with
eight rebounds and six assists. Hunt's next feat was a 17-point,
15-rebound, 10-assist effort in a 99-86 win over Paul Quinn College
(Texas). For the week, he made 14-of-24 field goal attempts (58.3%)
including 5-of-11 from three-point range. The Rams are 6-1 in the
conference and 10-5 overall.
"We are doing things necessary to win
right now, and Ben has been a big part of that," head coach
Terry Waldrop said. "Even though he is only 6-2, he fights
for every rebound and has been a big surprise on the boards. It
just goes to show when you work that hard, good things will happen."
Texas Wesleyan now sits in first place
in the RRAC standings, a half-game ahead of both Langston and Houston
Baptist. The Rams have won six in a row and 9 of its last 10 games,
after going 1-4 to start the season.
The Rams will be back in action Thursday
when they host conference-rival Texas College. Tip-off is set for
7:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. Texas Wesleyan leads
the all-time series, 11-0, and won both meetings last season. The
Rams defeated the Steers, 76-74 in Fort Worth, and 78-66, in Tyler.
