Score BACONE, Okla. - The Texas
Wesleyan had a hard time holding onto the ball Monday evening as they committed
21 turnovers and fell to Bacone College, 91-83, at the Palmer Center in Red River
Athletic Conference action.
Texas
Wesleyan (14-9, 10-5 RRAC) opened the game on an 8-2 run, to take a six-point
lead with 17:10 remaining in the first half. The Rams received treys from juniors
Scott Reasoner and Brad Schilder, and a jumper from junior Ben Hunt.
Bacone
College (13-12, 6-9 RRAC) fought back with a 20-11 run over the next six minutes
to regain the lead, 22-19, with 11:13 remaining in the game.
The
Rams responded with a 12-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 31-26 lead
with 5:30 left in the first frame.
The Warriors
answered with a 16-6 run to end the half, to take a 42-37 lead into the break.
Marco Malesevic led the Warriors and all scorers with 16 points in the first half
to lead the way.
Texas Wesleyan came out
in the second half hot, going on a 20-9 run in the first eight minutes to take
a 57-51 lead with 12:13 remaining in the game. The Rams were led by senior Tommy
Johnson who had eight points and junior Khayri McKinney who chipped in with five
points.
Bacone College again answered with
a 19-5 run over six minutes to take a 70-62, with 6:48 remaining in the contest.
Malesevic canned three treys during the stretch.
The
Rams could never get back in the game as the Warriors went 9-of-10 from the charity
stripe in the last two minutes.
Johnson
led Texas Wesleyan with 17 points, while Schilder and Hunt both chipped in with
16 points each. Hunt also had a game-high five assists to go along with his eight
rebounds.
Malesevic led Bacone College with
24 points, which included six treys. Mike Olden tallied 20 points and four assists
for the Warriors.
Texas Wesleyan shot 48
percent (31-65) from the floor and 57 percent (8-14) from the charity stripe.
The Rams also shot 48 percent (13-27) from the three-point line.
Bacone
College shot 48 percent (31-65) from the field and 83 percent (19-23) from the
free-throw line. The Warriors also shot 39 percent (10-26) from behind the arc.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday when it hosts conference-rival Paul Quinn.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. The Rams defeated
the Tigers, 99-86, Jan. 8th, in Dallas. The Rams are currently in third place
