Texas Wesleyan University, in partnership with
the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, is pleased
to present the 12th annual Swing with the Legends Golf
Series tournament and dinner, sponsored by Big Rock Land and
Exploration. The five-person scramble, where each team of four is
partnered with a former major league baseball player, will benefit
the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth, Texas Wesleyan
University Baseball and the MLBPAA.
The tournament, an annual event directed by the
MLBPAA, has helped raise money for local charities since its
inception. Most recently, this tournament help raise the funds
necessary to build the Fort Worth Optimist Club baseball fields on
the south side of town. Going forward, the Boys & Girls Clubs
of Greater Fort Worth hopes for similar success.
Were excited to be a part
of this tournament, and glad to continue our partnership with
Texas Wesleyan, said Joe Cordova, President of The Boys &
Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth. Though we dont have
a specific project in mind right now, the money we raise this week
will be used to further support our kids through programs we
already have in place.
The event begins on Wednesday evening with a
dinner, donated and catered by Outback Steakhouse, at the Legends
of the Game Museum at the Ballpark in Arlington. Following dinner
will be both live and silent auctions of baseball memorabilia. The
tournament, to be held at The Links at Waterchase Golf Club in
East Fort Worth, begins with a shotgun start at 2:00 PM on
Thursday. Approximately thirty celebrities are scheduled to play,
including Eddie Robinson and Doyle Alexander, plus former Texas
Rangers Tom Grieve, Pete OBrien, Toby Harrah, Oddibe
McDowell, Tim Crabtree, Dave Hostetler, and Wesleyans head
baseball coach, Mike Jeffcoat.
Individual and team spots are still available,
beginning at $350 per person. For more information, contact Monica
Cook at (817) 531-4401 or mcook@txwes.edu.
