November 18, 2002

Complete RRAC Volleyball All-Conference Team

FORT WORTH, Texas – After a 20-win regular season and an appearance in the Red River Conference tournament’s final match on Saturday, four Lady Rams were among those receiving All-Conference honors. Senior outside hitter Leighann Krey and sophomore setter Cortney Johansen were both named to the All-Conference first team, sophomore outside hitter Nicky Davis received the Front Row Specialist of the Year award, and freshman middle blocker Rachel Loftin was honored as the conference Freshman of the Year. Davis and Loftin were also named to the All-Conference second team.

Krey, in her final season at Wesleyan, led the Lady Rams with 377 kills and finished third in the conference with 4.0 kills per game. Despite a shoulder injury, she competed in 94 of Wesleyans 101 games, and contributed 46.5 total blocks (18 solo, 57 assisted) and had 218 digs (2.3 per game).

Johansen, the only setter used by the Lady Rams this season, produced an amazing 1217 assists on the year. Her average of just over 12 was second best in the conference by just .15 assists per game. She also produced 174 digs, 27 total blocks (7 solo, 40 assisted), and led the squad with 45 aces and an outstanding hitting percentage of .379.

Davis, a transfer-student from Henderson State University, finished second on the squad with 252 kills. Her average of 2.7 per game was good for thirteenth in the conference, and her .344 hitting percentage ranked ninth. She also produced 46.5 total blocks (9 solo, 75 assisted) while playing primarily on the front line for the Lady Rams.

Loftin came to Wesleyan this year straight from Joshua high school, and stepped in to contribute almost immediately. Her .322 hitting percentage ranked thirteenth in a conference dominated by powerful upperclassmen, and at 2.3 kills per game, she finished twentieth. She also added 62 total blocks (18 solo, 88 assisted) in just 82 games.

The awards, voted on by the coaches of the Red River Athletic Conference, were announced Monday morning (Nov. 18).
