FORT WORTH, Texas After an outstanding
season in which she led the Lady Rams to a 22-12 overall record
and a birth in the NAIA Region VI tournament, senior outside
hitter Leighann Krey was selected by NAIA voters as a 2002
honorable mention All-American.
Krey, who hails from Springtown, paced the Lady
Rams offensively with 357 kills during the season, despite missing
seven games due to injury. She ranked third in the Red River
Athletic Conference with 3.92 kills per game, and also ranked in
the top 20 in hitting percentage at .290. In addition to her
powerful offense, she recorded 51 blocks (21 solo, 60 assisted)
for the year, tallied 254 digs, and served 29 aces.
Krey, also named to the Conference first-team
and NAIA Region VI first-team, was honored as the Red River
Conference player of the week three times during the regular
season. Only she and NAIA National Player of the Year Elele
Ekadeli of Houston Baptist University were named player of the
week more than once.
Leighann has always been a great
player, said head coach Rick Johansen. We have felt
fortunate to have her here at Wesleyan for the past five years.
She has always been a good leader, loyal to our program, and a
great competitor. Although we will try, it will be very difficult
to replace her. She is very deserving of this honor.
