KENT, Ohio - TRZ Sports Information
Services, Inc. of Kent, Ohio and Celecast Inc. of Villa Rica, Ga.,
announced early this month that they have entered an agreement to
provide college sports fans with live play-by-play audio of their
favorite sports teams direct to their cell phones.
TRZ has been providing live event coverage
since 1989 through its TEAMLINE telephone and Internet services.
Celecast, Inc. is a mobile media content provider that has
orchestrated a unique method of distributing games via cell phones
that is expected to significantly reduce the cost of listening to
games for the cell phone listener.
"We are excited to be able to
offer this option to our fans at Texas Wesleyan University,"
Texas Wesleyan athletic director Terry Waldrop said. "The
success of our programs last year has generated renewed interest
from the community and we see this as another opportunity to
promote our university and athletic department."
Texas Wesleyan, who has been using TEAMLINE to
broadcast its basketball and volleyball games since 2001, will be
able to offer Celecast service to its fans as part of its existing
TEAMLINE contract and any new revenues generated by Celecast will
be paid to the school in addition to its regular TEAMLINE rights
fees.
Celecast and TRZ will announce pricing and
service plans for college teams at the NACDA Convention in June so
that teams can plan for the 2003-2004 season. Season passes are
expected to be priced as low as $39 per season, with teams getting
a percentage of every season pass.
