DENTON, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan women's soccer team lost,
2-0, to Texas Women's University, Saturday afternoon.
"Texas Women's has a great team,"
head coach Steve Jones said. "We started out slow and couldn't
capitalize on the chances we had."
The Lady Pioneers opened the scoring in
the 34th minute when Emily Neinen put a header past Lady Ram goalkeeper
Katrina Fishback to put Texas Women's ahead, 1-0. Luci Romberg assisted
on the play.
Stephanie Stein scored the only other goal
of the game in the 38th minute on another header off of a pass from
Melissa Scott.
Texas Women's (1-2-1) outshot Texas Wesleyan,
27-6.
Texas Wesleyan (4-2) was led by Fishback,
who tallied 12 saves in a losing cause.
"They jumped on us early in the first
game, but we settled down in the second half and played great team
defense," Jones said. "Kat made some great saves to keep
us in the game."
The Lady Rams will be back in action Wednesday,
at Martin Field when they host 17th-ranked Oklahoma City at 3 p.m.
