FORT WORTH, Texas - For the
second straight week, three members of the Texas Wesleyan volleyball
team were awarded Red River Athletic Conference players of the week.
Sophomore Rachel Loftin was named conference co-player of the week,
junior Cortney Johansen was named co-setter of the week and sophomore
Allyson Gaudi was named defensive specialist of the week. For Johansen
and Gaudi, it was the second time in as many weeks they received
this honor. They were both selected as regional player of the week
for their respected positions. Gaudi has now been selected as regional
defensive specialist of the week for two straight weeks.
Loftin, a sophomore middle blocker from
Joshua, Texas, racked up 31 kills in two conference victories for
the Lady Rams, which is now 10-2 on the season and 8-1 in the Red
River Conference. In a four-game match with University of Texas
of the Permian Basin, Loftin had 16 kills in 31 total attempts with
just five errors (.357 hitting percentage). She added 10 blocks
in the win. Against College of the Southwest, she finished with
15 as TWU won, 3-0. For the week, she had 31 kills and 13 blocks.
Johansen, a senior from Colleyville, Texas,
is co-Setter of the Week for the second time this season with 100
assists in two matches last week. She managed 55 assists in four
games against UTPB and 45 in a three-gamer with CSW. She averaged
14.3 assists per game for the week, and she contributed four kills
and eight digs.
Gaudi, a sophomore libero from Colleyville,
is a repeat selection for defensive specialist with 33 digs in two
matches. She had 19 total digs (4.8 per game) against UTPB and notched
15 digs against CSW. She leads Texas Wesleyan with 171 digs on the
season with an average of 4.3 per game.
The Lady Rams will be back in action Monday
at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium when they host conference-rival
Southwest Assemblies of God at 7 p.m.
