| WESTWEGO, La. - Sophomore
Travis Clifford was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Rams but that was not enough
as host Loyola defeated Texas Wesleyan 7-2 Saturday night at a rain-soaked Segnette
Field. The game was the second contest of the Global Bullion Trading Group Shootout.
Brad Rodrigue led the Wolfpack (4-0) offensively
going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a double. His homer came in the fourth
inning and gave Loyola a 4-2 lead, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Senior Brad Shiller got the loss for Texas
Wesleyan (0-3). The Arlington, Texas native, pitched four innings and gave up
four runs on four hits while striking out two.
Junior
Mark Smajstrla also finished 2-for-3 for the Rams with a run scored.
"We
had our chances but didn't capitalize," head coach Mike Jeffcoat said. "It
is still very early in the season and we are still learning from our mistakes.
We found out tonight what we need to work on. We just have to shake it off and
go out tomorrow and play."
The schedule
for Sunday has been changed due to the rain. Texas Wesleyan will take on Thomas
University at 10 a.m. and wrap up the tournament against Mississippi College at
4 p.m.
