RAMS STAY HOT: KNOCK OFF PAUL QUINN
January 19
, 2006

DALLAS, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (8-6, 5-2 RRAC) took another conference win on Thursday, when they traveled to Dallas, TX to take on Paul Quinn College.  The Rams topped the Tigers 103-81.

In the first half, Texas Wesleyan built a double digit lead with an 8-0 run on a pair of threes from Ben Hunt and a dunk by Scott Reasoner bringing the score to 42-32 with just over six minutes remaining.  The Rams 43% (6-14) shooting from behind the arc threatened to blow the Tigers out, but Paul Quinn used 44% (7-16) shooting to stay in the ballgame, 55-45 at halftime.

The Rams stepped up their defensive intensity in the second half.  They did not allow the Tigers to hit a single three-pointer in the final twenty minutes while knocking down five more of their own on their way to the 103-81 win.

The Rams shot an outstanding 56.6% from the field and 44% (11-25) from three-point range.  Texas Wesleyan also dominated the boards, holding a 48-36.

For the second consecutive game, the Rams had five players in double figures.  Evan Patterson turned in a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Ben Hunt finished with 21 points and 9 boards.  Nino Etienne scored 20 points and brought down 8 rebounds.  Scott Reasoner tallied 16 points to go with 8 boards, and Brad Schilder recorded 10 points and 9 assists.  Khayri McKinney just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 assists.

Damien Chisholm led four players in double-figures for Paul Quinn with 22 points.  Jarian Thomas recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

“They did a good job penetrating,” said head coach Terry Waldrop, “but we played better defensively in the second half.  We came in and got a win on the road, which is what we needed to do.”

Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Monday, January 23, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the Sid Richardson Center.  That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game.
