ODESSA, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (17-8, 13-4 RRAC) suffered an 80-73 loss at UT-Permian Basin (19-6, 14-4). The loss drops the Rams into a virtual tie for second in the conference as both Texas Wesleyan and UTPB have four conference losses.
In January, the Rams jumped ahead early on their way to an 80-67 win over the Falcons in Fort Worth in January. This time the Falcons avoided that early deficit by out shooting the Rams 44%-40% in the first half and matching Texas Wesleyans 34 points in the first frame.
In the second half, the Falcons picked up the pace hitting an even 50% (17-34) from the floor. For the game, UTPB out shot Texas Wesleyan 47%-40%.
Nino Etienne led the Rams with his 5th double-double of the season. Etienne finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Ben Hunt scored 16 points while Evan Patterson poured in 11 while bringing down eight rebounds. Khayri McKinney also pitched in 10 points for the Rams. Corey Hadnot and Nedrie Simmons led the Falcons with 21 and 20 points respectively. Texas Wesleyan has just two home games remaining on the schedule beginning with Bacone College on Thursday, February 23. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game. |
