RAMS TROUNCE TIGERS ON SENIOR NIGHT
February 25, 2006

FORT WORHT, TX:  The 22nd ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (19-8, 15-4 RRAC) took a 91-64 win over Paul Quinn College (4-27, 2-14) in the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.  Prior to the game, the Rams honored seven outstanding seniors who played in their final home game.

Over the last four seasons, the class of 2006 has led Texas Wesleyan to a record of 76-50.  This season, the have accounted for nearly 65% of the team’s offense with 1,382 points.  The group is led by six-time RRAC Player of the Week and 1,000-points scorer Ben Hunt, Brad Schilder, who ranks 12th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,194 career points, Khayri McKinney who’s career 46.7% long range shooting ranks second in school history, and Scott Reasoner who has scored 542 points in just two seasons.

Seniors Albert Talley, Muhammad Abdullah, Brandon Livingston, and Scott Reasoner all earned the start in tonight’s contest.  For the first three minutes, Reasoner got the crowd going with a series of dunks and blocked shots that led to a 10-1 lead out of the gate.

Five three pointers from Paul Quinn kept the Tigers in the game for the first 10 minutes.  The Rams led 30-23 with just over eight minutes to go when they went on a 11-0 run to take command.

The Rams led 52-33 at the break, and continued to stretch that lead in the second half on their way to the 91-64 final.

Texas Wesleyan out rebounded Paul Quinn 54-37 and out shot the Tigers, 51%-33%.

Ben Hunt led the Rams with 15 points.  Reasoner finished with a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with 6 assists.  Evan Patterson scored 12, Khayri McKinney 10 and Nino Etienne finished with 10 points.  Paul Quinn’s Damien Chisholm led all scorers with 22 points.

Head coach Terry Waldrop was pleased with his team’s performance.  “We had all of the distractions, nerves, and emotions of Senior Night tonight, but we still played hard and came out with a 27-point win.  Scott [Reasoner] got everybody fired up at the start and we were able to spread out the playing time which is what we wanted to do.”

The Rams return to action on Monday, February 27, when they travel to Waxahachie, TX, to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the season finale, before the Red River Athletic Conference tournament begins next week.  That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game.
