FORT WORTH, TX: For the third straight game, the ninth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (10-3, 3-0 RRAC) posted a convincing win over a conference opponent. The Rams pounded Paul Quinn College (1-10, 0-3) 80-56 in the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.
The Tigers managed to hang tough through the first half. Texas Wesleyan led by just five, 33-26, before Evan Patterson converted a three-point play to send his team to the locker room with an eight-point lead.
The Rams started the second half with a seven point run sparked by a CJ Higginbotham three-pointer. In the first five minutes of the period they outscored the Tigers 15-4 to open a 49-30 lead. From there they led by as many as 26, 77-51, on their way to the 80-56 win.
For the second straight game, Kelvin Williams provided the exclamation point. This time on a powerful dunk over a Paul Quinn defender that brought the score to 70-48 with 5:26 on the clock.
CJ Higginbotham continued to light it up as the game’s leading scorer with 22 points. Evan Patterson added 17 points. Williams finished with 13 points while CJ Wren added 10 for the Rams. Cedric Brooks led the Tigers with 19 points and nine rebounds.
For the game, the Rams out shot the Tigers 50%-34% and won the battle of the boards 41-30.
The game was a final preparation for the Rams before they host 19th ranked Houston Baptist University on Saturday. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center. |
