MARSHALL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball (12-6, 5-3 RRAC) suffered a 61-37 loss at the hands of Wiley College (11-8, 6-4) on Thursday.
Wiley came out hot while and jumped ahead 14-4. Texas Wesleyan slowed the Wildcats to just 34% shooting in the first half, but they managed just 26% (6-23) themselves and trailed 29-15 at the break.
The Rams fared no better in the second half, shooting an identical 6-23 from the floor. Wiley quickly opened a 20-point lead at 39-19. Texas Wesleyan was never able to mount a sizable comeback. Wiley led by as many as 26 on their way to the 61-37.
Texas Wesleyan did have a good night at the free throw line, 10-12 (83%); however, they committed 21 turnovers that led to 19 points for the Wildcats.
Kelvin Williams led the Rams with 11 points and six rebounds. Terrell Jacobs and Hector Garza each scored 14 for Wiley. The Rams return to the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday, when they host Texas College. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. |
