FORT WORTH, TX: The ninth ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball (13-6, 6-3 RRAC) team got just the homecoming they needed after a rough week on the road. The Rams dominated Texas College (3-11, 2-9) and cruised to an 82-71 win.
The Rams got big games from several key players, shot 50% from the field and dominated the boards (42-34).
Texas Wesleyan came out hot. A three from CJ Higginbotham capped an 11-2 run to start the game. The Rams led by as many as 19, 35-16, and 18 first-half points from Higginbotham led the Rams to a 47-30 lead at the half.
The second half started with another Texas Wesleyan run. This time an 11-1 run pushed the lead to 27 points at 58-31 in the first four minutes of the half, and the Rams were in cruise control the rest of the way.
Texas College used a 9-2 run in the final 1:16 to bring the game to its final score of 82-71.
Senior forward Nino Etienne just missed a triple-double with 12 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Kelvin Williams added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. CJ Higginbotham led all scorers with 24 points, while Evan Patterson finished with 13 points and nine boards.
Texas College was led by Czyz Bennett’s 23 points, while Jameus Hartsfield finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Good ball movement led to 22 assists for the Rams who also managed a solid 71% (12-17) from the free throw line.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday, February 7, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College. That game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
