DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (16-6, 9-3 RRAC) took a 76-64 win against Paul Quinn College (5-16, 4-9) at the Ellis Davis Field House on Monday.
The Rams came out blazing at 54% in the first half. Three threes from CJ Higginbotham led a 15-4 run to start the game. Texas Wesleyan stretched that lead to 18 when a Fred Eshon trey brought the score to 31-13. Paul Quinn had to hit 9-of-11 free throws and put in 13 second chance points to hold the margin to 43-30 at halftime.
Midway through the second half, Paul Quinn went on a 16-2 run to make it a one-possession game at 54-51. The Rams responded with eight unanswered points to stretch the lead back to 62-51 with just over seven minutes to play. Paul Quinn cut the lead to single digits on three more occasions, but never mounted another serious threat.
The Rams overcame 26 turnovers by shooting 53% (26-49) from the field and knocking down 10 three-point attempts.
CJ Higginbotham led the way with 19 points including 5-of-8 three-point attempts. Dane Dmitrovic turned in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kelvin Williams finished with nine points and 10 boards. Fred Eshon scored 11 points, and Evan Patterson finished with 10 for the Rams.
Paul Quinn was led by Damien Chisholm’s 18 points.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action on Valentine’s Day when they host Huston-Tillotson University in the Sid Richardson Center. That game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. |
