HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (17-7, 10-4) suffered a 69-45 loss at tenth ranked Houston Baptist University (19-4, 13-2) on Saturday.
Texas Wesleyan snagged an early 7-2 lead and continued to lead at 13-12, when HBU used a 13-1 run to take control with six minutes to play in the first half.
In the second half, the Rams cut the margin to single digits, 45-36, with a CJ Higginbotham jumper with just under ten minutes to play. However, HBU outscored Texas Wesleyan 17-1 over the next five minutes and ran away with the 69-45 win.
The Rams shot just 29% in the game while HBU managed 43% from the field including an even 50% (13-26) in the second half.
Evan Patterson led the Rams with 16 points and seven rebounds. Dane Dmitrovic added 10 points and seven boards. Dwight Jones II led all scorers with 21 points while HBU’s Todd Henry recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Monday, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. |
