FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (18-9, 11-6 RRAC) had a completely dominating performance on Saturday. The Rams topped the Bacone College Warriors (9-20, 5-12) by a final of 113-78 in the Sid Richardson Center.
The Rams matched their highest point total since 2000 (115 at Texas Lutheran). CJ Higginbotham poured in a career-high 34 points while matching his career high with seven three-pointers. His 7-for-7 from long range was a new school record for percentage in a single game. In his last three games Higginbotham has gone 17-for-21 (81%) from downtown giving a comfortable lead in the nation at 54% (86-160) on the year.
The night did not belong solely to Higginbotham. Nino Etienne finished with a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. Justin Loewe matched his career-high with 25 points. Loewe went 6-for-8 from three-point range including a perfect 5-for-5 in the second half. Evan Patterson finished with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Kelvin Williams scored 12 points for the Rams.
In addition, the win was the first career win for Assistant Coach Brennan Shingleton who was acting as head coach in the absence of Terry Waldrop. For good measure, sophomore guard CJ Wren was crowned Homecoming King at halftime.
In the opening 15:30 minutes of the game Higginbotham was single-handedly out scoring the Warriors 19-18 and the Rams led 38-18 on their way to a 50-30 halftime lead.
In the second half the Rams shot 70% (23-33) from the field and led by as many as 40, 93-53.
Chivas Miller led three Warriors in double-figure scoring with 16 points.
For the game, Texas Wesleyan shot 62% from the field and 70% from long range while dominating the boards 49-20.
Texas Wesleyan will play its final regular season game on Monday when they host Langston University. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by Senior Day festivities.
