RAMS WIN IN THE NINTH

ABILENE, TX:  The eighth ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (24-4) plated two runs in the ninth inning to take a 7-5 win at McMurry University (17-12) on Tuesday.

After Brandon Frazier singled and scored in the first for the Rams, McMurry took a 3-1 lead with RBI from Brent Voorhees, Weston Franco, and Hank Casey in the bottom of the first.

The Rams chipped away with a lead off double and an RBI single from Billie Hicks in the third and tied the game on a sac fly from Jason Diaz in the fourth. 

RBI walks from Ryan Jacobi and Ross Elmore gave Texas Wesleyan a 5-3 lead in the seventh, but Voorhees drilled a two-run homer that tied the game in the eighth.

The ninth inning started with back-to-back doubles from Taylor Miller and Jocobi.  Elmore followed with a bunt single, and JR Phelps scored Miller with a sac bunt.

Hayden Lackey, who came on to record the last two outs of the eighth, recorded two quick groundball outs in the bottom of the ninth, but a Texas Wesleyan error left the door open.  A single from Steven Yurchick put runners at first and third, but Lackey stuck out Derek David to end the game.

Lackey (1-0) worked 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and striking out two on his way to his first win of the season.

Billie Hicks led the Rams at the plate with three of their eleven hits.  Ross Elmore added a 2-for-3 night while Ryan Jocobi went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.
