ETIENNE TAKEN 2nd IN PANAMANIAN CBS DRAFT
March 24, 2007

PANAMA CITY, PANAMA:  The Panamanian Circuito de Baloncesto Superior (CBS) held its 2007 player draft last week, and Texas Wesleyan’s Nino Etienne was the second overall pick.

Etienne, a 6’4” 200 lb. forward from Panama City Panama, was selected by the Toros

del Chorrillo with the second overall pick.

Coaches and owners of each of the six teams in the league attended the draft.  The CBS schedule will run from May 10 – June 23 with games being played in Panama City and Colon.

Etienne helped Texas Wesleyan to a national championship in 2006 and a 19-10 record this season.  He was a 2nd-team All-Red River Athletic Conference selection in 2006 and a pre-season All-American in 2007.

In three seasons with the Rams, Etienne played in 94 games, making 55 starts.  He amassed 914 points (9.7 ppg) and 563 rebounds (6.0 rpg) while shooting 52% (365-697) from the field.

In his senior season he reached double figures in scoring 17 times.  He ranked third on the team with 11.1 points per game and recorded the school’s first triple-double since 2005 when he scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 12 assists against Bacone on February 24.

Etienne will graduate with a degree in exercise science in May.  At this year’s graduation Etienne, Evan Patterson, and Ben Hunt will receive their diplomas meaning that all five starters from the National Championship squad will have graduated.
