FORT WORTH, TX: Coming off their first Red River Athletic Conference Championship and a 41-10 record several members of the Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team are having strong summers both in the professional ranks and in collegiate summer leagues.
Ryan Riddle (RHP, Bedford, TX) is currently pitching with the Batavia Muckdogs, Single A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Riddle picked up his first professional win on August 1, when he worked a perfect fifth inning against the Williamsport Crosscutters in New York-Penn League action. Riddle had a rough start to his professional career, but he has settled in and has not allowed an earned run in his last six outings (8.1 IP), lowering his ERA to 6.88 for the season.
Meanwhile, Billie Hicks (SS, Arlington, TX) has signed a contract with the San Angelo Colts of the United Baseball League where he joined teammate Jason Diaz (2B, Fort Worth, TX). Hicks started 30 of 39 games for the Texas Heat in the Continental Baseball League before signing with the Colts. Hicks went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple in his first game with the Colts. Diaz ranks second on the team with a .338 AVG while leading the team in on base percentage at .436.
Ross Elmore (2B, Athens, TX) is hitting .295 with eight doubles and six homers with the Texas Heat. Victor Burgos (OF, Bayamon, Puerto Rico) signed with the St. Joe Blacksnakes of the American Association after starting out with the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League.
Hayden Lackey (RHP, Duncanville, TX) and Aaron Lenz (RHP, Round Rock, TX) helped the Fort Collins Foxes to a Mountain Collegiate League Championship this summer. Lackey turned in a 4.22 ERA in 12 appearances. Lenz saved six games including the championship against the Laramie Colts when he worked the final inning of a 6-5 victory.
Brandon Frazier (CF, Burleson, TX) was an All-Star selection in the prestigious Northwoods League. Frazier is currently hitting .285 with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, and ranks amongst the league leaders with 12 stolen bases.
