LANGSTON, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (14-8, 6-4 RRAC) suffered a 76-43 loss at the hands of 7th ranked Langston University (30-5, 10-0) on Marques Haynes Court on Monday.
In the first half, the Rams kept things close until the Lions rattled off 13 unanswered points over a four minute period to take a 34-17 lead with just over four minutes to play. The Rams shot just 25% in the frame and trailed 41-26 at the intermission.
The Lions turned up the defensive pressure in the second half. A three-pointer from Sheleatha Simmons with 1:40 to play ended a seven minute stretch without a field goal for Texas Wesleyan.
Andria Mitchell was a very bright spot for the Lady Rams. The freshman forward had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the first half and finished the game with 12 points and 17 rebounds, notching career-highs in both categories.
Jamie Skinner led the attack for Langston with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday when they host Texas College. As part of Think Pink Week, all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer research. Saturday’s contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in the Sid Richardson Center. |
