GAME TWO GOES TO LCU
February 9, 2007

FORT WORTH, TX:  The seventh ranked Lubbock Christian University baseball team (8-1) leveled a three-game series with #18 Texas Wesleyan University (2-2) at one game each with a 6-4 win at LaGrave Field on Saturday.

 

LCU got on the board first with an RBI single from Jarred Bogany and a sacrifice fly from Karlton Banks.

 

In the fifth inning the Chaps loaded the bases with two outs when Tyler Johnson broke the game open with a grand slam.

 

The Rams got an unearned tally in the seventh.  In the bottom of the ninth Texas Wesleyan made things interesting.  With two outs, Jerry Fisher came through with a two-run double to left-center.  Brandon Frazier followed with an RBI single and Ryan Jacobi singled to bring the winning run to the plate.  However Tanner Vickers was up to the task and ended the contest with a strikeout.

 

Chris Holguin improved to 3-0 with the win.  He allowed one unearned on six hits run in seven innings of work while striking out six.  Vickers notched his first save of the season after pitching to two batters and recording the final out.

 

Joey Evans (0-1) tossed five inning and allowed six runs, four earned on six hits while striking out seven.  Jesse Wright was solid in relief for the Rams with four scoreless innings of work.

 

Frazier and Jacobi each went 2-for-5.  Frazier added a triple and an RBI.  Fisher was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Johnson home run proved to be the difference in the game.  Johnson went 1-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

 

The series finale is set for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday at LaGrave Field.
