LCU TAKES SERIES TWO GAMES TO ONE

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 18th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (2-3) suffered a 7-3 loss at the hands of 7th ranked Lubbock Christian University (9-1) in the rubber-match of a three-game series on Sunday.

 

The Chaps put two runs on the board in the first inning as Texas Wesleyan issued three walks.  In the bottom of the second, the Rams used a single from Zach Smith and an LCU error to plate a pair of runs.

 

Chase Robertson made it 4-2 LCU with a two-run homer in the fourth, and Ryan Burke added a two-run double in the fifth.  A Texas Wesleyan error and a sacrifice fly from Jamie Armendariz brought the score to 7-2 LCU in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Rams got an RBI single from Blake Walker and brought the tying run to the plate by loading the bases with two outs.  However LCU’s Jakob Cunning ham enduced a fly ball to get out of the jam.

 

James Wallace (3-0) earned the win after tossing 7.2 innings and allowing three unearned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine.  Cunningham got the save by working the final 1.1 innings.

 

Steven DeFratus (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and striking out four in five innings of work.  Aaron Wimpee added three innings of strong relief, allowing one unearned run on one hits in three innings pitched.

 

Texas Wesleyan’s Ryan Jacobi raised his season average to .455 by going 2-for-4 at the plate.  Will Stramp and Chase Robertson both collected a pair of hits for LCU.

 

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Belton, TX, to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
