FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-4) stole seven bases on their way to a 6-2 win over LeTourneau Univeristy (1-1-1) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
After Aaron Wimpee allowed just one base runner on his first trip through the Yellow Jacket lineup, LeTourneau got on the board with an RBI single from Ed Hurta in the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams tied things up with a sacrifice fly from Butch Ballez. LeTourneau then added an unearned run in the fifth, but Texas Wesleyan answered with two runs on two hits and two walks in the bottom of the inning.
An RBI double from Ballez and a two-run single from Ryan Ragsdale in the eighth accounted for the 6-2 final.
Aaron Wimpee (1-0) allowed just two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out a pair in five innings pitched.
Reuben Brooks (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits in two innings of work.
Brandon Frazier went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk while matching the Texas Wesleyan single-game record with four stolen bases. Ragsdale went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Blake Walker added a pair of hits for the Rams.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they host Cumberland University (TN). That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch at LaGrave Field. |
