RAMS POUND OUT RECORD 23 HITS

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (8-5) tied the school record by pounding out 23 hits in a 17-6 win over UT-Dallas (7-3) at LaGrave Field on Monday.

The Rams offense broke out for a big inning in the bottom of the first.  Texas Wesleyan sent all nine men to the plate, scoring five runs on five hits including home runs from Brandon Frazier and Zach Smith.

The Comets loaded the bases with one out in the second, but the Rams erased the lead runner with a ground ball and Aaron Wimpee got out of the jam with a strikeout.

In the second, the Rams scored three runs after getting singles from Frazier and Smith and a two-run double off the bat of Ryan Ragsdale.

UT-Dallas got on the board when Jared Smith led off the fourth inning with a solo home run.  The Rams got RBI singles from Ragsdale and Butch Ballez in the fourth before putting the game well out of reach in the fifth.

In the fifth inning, Texas Wesleyan sent eleven men to the plate and scored five runs on five hits to bring the score to 15-1.  UT-Dallas got a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

The Rams added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth highlighted by a leadoff triple from Jordan Buckley and a solo homer from Kyle Harmon.  UT-Dallas got a two-run single from Matt Cargile in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Eleven different Rams collected a hit in the contest, while Brandon Frazier, Zach Smith, Harrison Law, Ryan Ragsdale, and Butch Ballez all had three hits.

Aaron Wimpee (2-0) earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven in 6.2 innings of work.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host 9th ranked Oklahoma City University.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
