Four Lady Rams were honored before the contest for their support and contributions to the Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball program.
The honorees included a 5-9 forward out of Commerce, TX, Britannia Champion, a 5-3 guard out Copperas Cove, TX, Moneke Smallwood, a 5-7 forward out of Waxahachie, TX, Whitnee Lowe, and a 6-0 center from Godley, TX, Keegan Harry.
Brittany Davenport and Tara Hurd led the Lady Rams in the first half with eight points each.
The Lady Rams trailed by as many as 12 in the first half but slowly bit away at the lead and only trailed by three (41-38) at the break.
In the second half, the Lady Rams trailed early, but a lay up from Hurd tied the game at 63 with 8:56 left in the game.
The Lady Rams answered with Hurd again tying the game at 67 with 7:41 remaining.
A lay up from Andria Mitchell gave the Lady Rams a 69-67 lead with 7:10 left in the contest and Texas Wesleyan never looked back, and went on to win the game.
Leaders for the Lady Rams were Mitchell, who had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kim Gatlin led all scorers with 21 points. Hurd finished with 16 points and Davenport scored 10 for the Lady Rams. The Lady Rams travel to Marshall, TX, to take on Wiley College on March 1. That contest scheduled to start at 2:30 pm. . |
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (18-9, 9-5 RRAC) defeated the Huston-Tillotson University Lady Rams (8-15, 7-6 RRAC) on senior night by a score of 90-85.
Huston Tillotson did not go down without a fight, and two good free throw shots by Ashley Taylor gave the HTU a 67-65 lead with 8:01 left.
