FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (8-6) dropped a 7-1 decision to the Oklahoma City University Stars (14-1) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
Texas Wesleyan got on the board first when Butch Ballez brought Blake Walker in with a two-out single in the second inning. After Steven DeFratus struck out the side in the top of the third, the Rams threatened with a bunt hit from Jerry Fisher and an infield hit from Brandon Frazier. However, the Stars got out of the jam with a double play.
The Stars got a run in the fourth on two walks, a hit batter, and a single from David Dennis, but DeFratus struck out two and left the bases loaded.
After a Texas Wesleyan error kept the fifth inning alive, the Stars scored three runs with RBI singles from David Mann, Brandon Moss, and BJ Wheeler. A two-run double from Corbett Thompson made it 6-1 in the seventh inning.
The Stars added one more run on a pair of Texas Wesleyan errors in the ninth.
Steven DeFratus (1-2) pitched well in the loss. DeFratus allowed four runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out eight in five innings pitched.
Mike Lee (3-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on six hits and striking out 11 in 7.2 innings of work.
The Rams will return to action on Monday, when they play at UT-Dallas. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch. |
