FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University head men’s soccer coach announced today the signing of Dominick Gutierrez, a goalkeeper out of University High School in Waco, TX.
Gutierrez is the most decorated player to come out of UHS. He was a three-time 1st-team All-District selection and was named Super CenTex Region Goalkeeper of the Year in each of the last two seasons. In addition he received North Texas’ “Stone Wall Award” for top goalkeeper.
Gutierrez also played for Hasan Nazari and David Hudgel’s ’91 Dallas Texans Red. He is a member of the ’91 OPD State Team and a Regional Poll Player.
Coach Gibbs considered himself lucky to have signed Gutierrez. “He is an incredible goalkeeper,” Gibbs said. “We were competing with some very successful Division I programs for Dominick and feel fortunate to have landed a player of his ability. He is quite possibly the fastest goalkeeper I have ever seen. He is very different in style from our other two top notch goalkeepers in Toby [Rochau] and Joakim [Soderbaum], but I think the contrast is a benefit to the team. I honestly believe we have the three best goalkeepers in the conference here at Texas Wesleyan.”
Texas Wesleyan had a solid 2007 season making their second Region VI Tournament appearance in the last three years. At 4-2-1 in conference play, they earned the second seed in the RRAC Tournament, where they defeated defending champion Huston-Tillotson in penalty kicks before falling in a shootout to UT-Brownsville in the RRAC title match. |
