PLYMOUTH, IN: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team kept an impressive streak alive with a round of 301 in Thursday’s third round action at the 57th NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship. By making the cut after three rounds, the Rams still have never missed the cut in 47 national tournament appearances.
The University of British Columbia continues to lead the tournament. A third round 289 moved BC to even par, 864, through three rounds. Nick Zappin of Johnson & Wales kept his team within three shots of the lead after shooting a second consecutive round of 69. Zappin leads all individuals at eight under par, 208, overall.
Mitch Hendon jumped all the way to 14th position when he birdied his final hole of the day. That birdie dropped him to one under par, 71, for the day and three over 219 for the tournament.
Armando Villarreal shot a round of 75 on Thursday. Paco Saracho struggled on the par-3 fifth hole and finished at 77 for the day. Stuart Martin shot 78, and Kevin Doskocil 80 to round out Texas Wesleyan’s card.
The field has been cut from 28 to 17 teams for Friday’s final round. The Rams will tee off on hole number 10 at 9:30 a.m.
