Box Score
BROWNWOOD, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (1-0-1) played to a scoreless draw after ninety minutes at Howard Payne University (0-0-1) on Saturday.
The Rams out shot the Yellow Jackets 16-4 but could not find the net. Texas Wesleyan had quality chances, hitting the post twice, and missing a penalty kick in the second half.
Joakim Soderbaum notched his second consecutive shutout after stopping Howard Payne’s lone shot on goal which came in the game’s fourth minute. Two HPU goalkeepers combined to make six saves for the Yellow Jackets.
Head coach Josh Gibbs was disappointed with the final score. “When you play a team that doesn’t really play, they just put eleven behind the ball and try to defend, you really have to play well, and we just didn’t do it,” he commented. “We had our chances and just didn’t do it.”
The Rams will play their home opener on Tuesday, September 2, when they host St. Gregory’s University. That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
