FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Adis Druzanovic of earned recognition as the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 25-31, while his teammate, Joakim Soderbaum, earned the conference’s weekly defensive award for the same dates.
Druzanovic, a sophomore midfielder from Bihac, Bosnia, led the Rams to victory in their season-opener with two goals and an assist. After Texas Wesleyan had already staked a 1-0 lead, he scored the next two goals and assisted on the fourth before halftime en route to an 8-0 over McMurry University (TX). The Rams also played to a scoreless tie in a match with Howard Payne University (TX) on Saturday, and they now stand at 1-0-1.
Soderbaum, a sophomore goalkeeper from Varberg, Sweden, was steady for the Rams throughout the first two matches as he posted back-to-back shutouts. He made five saves in the rout of McMurry and was perfect in net again to take the 0-0 tie with Howard Payne.
The Rams return to action this afternoon when they host St. Gregory’s University. That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
