Box Score
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer (1-1-1) team gave up its first goal of the season and took its first loss as St. Gregory’s University (3-0) held on for a 1-0 win at Martin Field.
The two teams played a scoreless half. In the second half, the Rams took a 21-3 advantage in shots. However, St. Gregory’s made the most of its opportunities. Alex Guerrero beat the Rams defense to a ball in the box and found the net in the 64th minute.
The Rams’ best opportunity came midway through the second half when Adis Druzanovic played a ball into the box for Kyle Fritz, but a St. Gregory’s defender just got enough of the ball to deflect the shot by the net. Fritz had another look at the goal in the 70th minute, but SGU’s Andres Pozo came up with one of his nine saves to hold the lead for the Cavaliers.
"When you dominate possession and don’t score you will lose games,” head coach Josh Gibbs said. “We proved that today. St. Gregory’s deserved to win this one.”
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday, September 6, when they host Benedictine College. That game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
