FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Theo Nabassi has been named Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 31-Sep. 6. Nabassi shared the award with UT-Brownsville’s Abass Ayembillah and University of the Southwest’s Callum Congreve.
Nabassi, a junior forward from Lome, Togo, pushed Texas Wesleyan to its best start in program history at 4-0. On Saturday, he sparked the Rams with their first goal in a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist University. He added two more goals on Sunday including the clincher in a 3-1 victory over Schreiner University (TX). Nabassi has totaled four goals to start the season.
Huston Tillotson’s Chris Veenhuis received the RRAC Defensive award. The freshman goalkeeper from Kyle, TX, shut out Concordia University (TX), 3-0, in his only start of the week. Ayembillah had a hat trick in a 5-1 win over Southern Nazarene University, while Congreve posted a hat trick in a 3-2 win over McMurry Universty (TX).
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday when they host third ranked Oklahoma City Univeristy. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
