Grade Reports

Grade report forms will issued to each Athletic Training Student at mid-term of each semester.  Students are to have the instructor for each of their classes complete the form.  It is to then be turned into the Clinical Coordinator so that deficiencies may be identified and plans for improvement can be made prior to the end of the semester.

Academic Probation

At the end of each semester, any Athletic Training Student with a posted GPA that does not meet retention requirements will be placed on "Academic Probation" for one semester or its equivalent length. During academic probation the student will be allowed to participate in the athletic training clinical setting on campus as an OBSERVER ONLY.  The student may continue to work with an assigned ACI on clinical skills associated with any athletic training course work that is being repeated, however, they will not be allowed to have direct clinical contact with athletes.  Any athletic training student placed on "Academic Probation" shall forfeit their athletic (First Responder) financial assistance.

Academic Suspension

If an Athletic Training Student’s GPA continues to remain deficient for more than one semester they shall forfeit their position in the Professional Preparation clinical program.  Any student who forfeits a clinical position for academic reasons may reapply to the program after achieving the required GPA.  The student will be competing for admission with ALL students who apply and MUST follow ALL admissions procedures.

Progress in Non-ATEP Specific Courses

Each semester the student’s grades will be evaluated for overall GPA and athletic training coursework GPA.  Many non-ATEP specific courses required as part of the Athletic Training degree deliver educational content required in the NATA Athletic Training Educational Competencies.  Since, these courses are not typically taught by athletic training program faculty, a student’s demonstrated competency in those areas is indicated only by the grades earned for these courses.  As such, any grade less than a “C” will require the student to successfully complete a written departmental examination over the specific Educational Competencies taught in that class.  Successful completion is defined as 75% or better.  If the student does not successfully complete the examination they will be required to retake the course associated with those competencies. A student may only take the examination one time for each class.  The ATEP Program Director will work with the student to schedule teach competency examination.
