Texas Wesleyan Spellbinders Meeting Jan. 18

Lunch Meeting for Faculty: Creating a Study Abroad Class or Trip

If you have wondered how to offer a class abroad, now is the time to find out how easy it is. If you are seasoned at this, come and learn some new tips and share your experiences. The Faculty Study Abroad luncheon meeting will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the Library Orientation Room. Retirement Plan Changes Meetings
Wesleyan flame logoRetirement plan changes meetings will be held on the historic campus at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the West Library Orientation Room and at the Law School at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Room 201. As a reminder, the IRS Deferral Limits have changed for calendar year 2007, employees who are less than 50 years of age will be able to defer up to $15,500 into their 403(b) retirement plan. Employees who are 50 or older before December 31, 2007, will be eligible to contribute up to $20,500. Please contact Human Resources, (817) 531-4403, for retirement-related questions.

New Manager of Student Accounts

photo of Marian FordToday we welcome Marian Ford as Manager of Student Accounts in the Cashier's Office. Ford has worked as an accountant in the Student Financials Office at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth for more than three years. Prior to that she was sales and use tax consultant in Dallas. Ford graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with a BBA in Accounting and Finance and a minor in German. In May, she will graduate from UNT with a MBA in Strategic Management. Ford is originally from Alabama but Texas has been her home for almost six years.

Two Wesleyan School of Education faculty members recently became officers in Texas Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators (TAECTE). The new President is Ann Reed, associate professor of education, and the treasurer is Patsy Robles-Goodwin, assistant professor of education.

     Reed has also been elected as a Board member for the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education. CSOTTE is dedicated to the support and refinement of professional preparation and development programs for all certified school personnel in Texas

Lorrie Webb, assistant professor of education, will present a paper entitled "Technology Integration by New Teachers: Do Attitudes Play a Part?" at the Texas Computer Education Association annual conference in Austin February 5-9. Webb will later present another paper entitled "Technology Integration by New Teachers: Is College Preparing Our Future Educators?" at the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education International Conference in San Antonio March 27-30.

Ann Reed, associate professor of education, and Lisa Dryden, professor of education, will be presenting at the "6th Annual International Literacy Conference" in Guatemala Feb. 22. The title of the presentation is "Setting the Stage for Success Through Instructional Activities for Language Development."

Bruce Benz, associate professor of biology, and R.J. Wilson, associate professor of education, as part of the Reed-Mitchell Lecture Series, will make a presentation on their research on Monarch butterflies. The presentation, at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, includes photos from the trip to Central Mexico with eight Wesleyan students. The presentation will be in the orientation room of the West Library.
