President’s Honors Concert Puts Spotlight on Top Music Students
Clip art of musical G clefThe musical talents of Texas Wesleyan’s top music students will be showcased during the President’s Honors Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Martin Hall, 1309 Wesleyan St.. The concert will be emceed by Dr. Lamar Smith, ’50, HON ’65, and will feature nine performances in a variety of
classical vocal and instrumental pieces. Three seniors are among the honored students: Eric Medlock, baritone, will perform "Warm as the Autumn Light" from The Ballad of Baby Doe; Mark Appling will perform Mauro Giuliani's "Grand Overture" on guitar; and soprano Stephanie Kelly will perform "Où va, la jeune Indoue" from Lakmé. Texas Wesleyan in Burleson Site Wins "Business of the Year" Award

Photo of Judy Arnold with Chamber of Commerce AwardJudy Arnold, site coordinator for Texas Wesleyan in Burleson, accepted the "Business of the Year" award presented by the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce (Annual Award Banquet) for "outstanding contributions to the community 2006" on Saturday, Jan. 27. Texas Wesleyan shares the honor with our partner at the Burleson site, Hill College. With more than 1,000 members from Burleson, Joshua, Crowley and surrounding area, BACC has been recognized as the National Chamber of the Year 1998-99 and 2002-2003.

Meeting for Faculty: Creating a Study Abroad Class or Trip
Wesleyan flame logoAny faculty taking or wanting to take a class abroad, please come to the Faculty Study Abroad Session from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the Library Orientation Room. International Programs will clarify and simplify the process for taking students abroad. Wesleyan Weight Loss Challenge

Scale Keep your New Year's resolution and win cash prizes with the Wesleyan Weight Loss Challenge. The Challenge will run from Feb. 1 to May 3; prizes include a $300 team prize and an individual prize $500 gift certificate. To participate, fill out the registration form available here. Blood Drive: Feb. 1

Clip art of IV bag with blood for transfusion Carter BloodCare will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, for a blood drive to help a Texas Wesleyan student who is hospitalized and needs numerous transfusions. In addition, blood supplies in the area are critically low, according to a recent Fort Worth Star-Telegram article (read it here). The 52nd Annual American Music Concert Features Wesleyan Alumni, Professors, Students

Clip art of musical G clefThe Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter and the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity will present the 52nd Annual American Music Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the sanctuary of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, 4200 Camp Bowie Blvd. The concert features music from American Composers performed by Texas Wesleyan alumni, professors and students.

     Sue Burrato and Julie McCoy will sing. Alice Walker ’84, the Minister of Music at Arlington Heights, will perform. Two other organists – Elaine Garvin ’70 and Fran Kerlin ’58 – and soprano Carla White ’87 will also perform. Admission is free and a reception will follow in the atrium of the church. Elevators Out of Service

Clip art of closed elevatorBeginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, until 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, the elevators in the Oneal-Sells Administration Building and Brown Lupton Campus Center will be out of service. The Facilities department will be painting the elevator doors on each floor of both buildings.

February Chapel Speakers

Chapel rose windowChapel is held every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Polytechnic Unitd Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to participate and hear the following speakers during the month of February: Feb. 6 - Dr. Gladys Childs; Feb. 13 - Katie Meeks, Hispanic Ministries; Feb. 20 - Jason Valendy; Feb. 27 - Dr. Jesse Sowell.

Graduate School of Education Open Houses

Wesleyan flame logoThe School of Education will host two open houses where potential students can learn more about the graduate program offerings. At the Burleson site from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, students can find out information about classes towards a principalship certificate or a master of science in school counseling. On the main campus in Dan Waggoner Hall from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, information will be available on all graduate programs offered in education and counseling at Texas Wesleyan. News From Burleson

Photo of Parade of LightsEnrollment at the Burleson site increased has over 10 percent from last semester and is now at 103. There are seven new EC-4 School of Education students and two new Liberal Studies students enrolled this spring. This semester Texas Wesleyan in Burleson is offering eleven classes: 2 Business, 1 Arts & science and 8 School of Education. Additionally, the Burleson site won second prize out of 67 entries in Burleson's Annual Parade of Lights. Click here to view pictures from the event.

Newspaper Alumna Teresa Nelson, BBA '93, was named a Great Woman of Texas in Business by the Fort Worth Business Press. Nelson is owner and CEO of Teresa's Treasures, which sells decorative gift packages. Read a bio of Nelson in the Jan. 22-28 edition of the Fort Worth Business Press.
