Wesleyan Chorale Presents Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor

clip art of g clefThe Wesleyan Chorale will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Grand Mass in C Minor, K. 427, with 60-voice chorus and orchestra, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Martin Hall. The Mass in C Minor, perhaps one of the best known of Mozart's Mass settings, will feature soprano Julie McCoy, associate professor of music, as a soloist. The chorale and accompanying orchestra will be conducted by Stephen Simons, professor of music. The 60-voice chorale is made up of Wesleyan students, faculty and staff members, Wesleyan music alumni and other friends of the University.  Admission is free. The concert is being underwritten through a generous gift from President & Mrs. Harold Jeffcoat.

United Way Campaign Kick-Off

United Way logo During last year's United Way campaign, the Texas Wesleyan community went beyond the expectations of a set goal of $5,000 to a startling record of $8,100 in just one week. Our goal this year is to reach $10,000. You should already have received your application to donate to the United Way through campus mail; the President’s Office has extra applications on hand if you did not. Return the completed application to the President’s Office at anytime before the deadline of Tuesday, Nov. 13. What’s Next: How to Apply to and Prepare for Graduate School

The workshop is presented by Marcel S. Kerr, associate professor of psychology and hosted by Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology. Photo of Brenda Taylor MatthewsBrenda Taylor Matthews, associate professor of history at Texas Wesleyan, and her co-authors will be signing copies of Grace & Gumption: Stories of Fort Worth Women at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Barnes & Noble on University. Matthews has contributed a chapter about Our Lady of Victory for the book, which is a history anthology including artists, African-American women, children’s advocates, cowgirls, clubwomen, entertainers, Hispanic women, Jewish women, journalists, nuns, philanthropists, pioneers, politicians, professional women, and temperance leaders.

Vaidya Participates in Leadership Development Conference

Ballenger Named Information Systems Specialist

Photo of Chad Ballenger Chad Ballenger has been named the Information Systems Specialist for the Title III project. Chad started with Texas Wesleyan in February 2007 as a User Support Specialist in ICT after working for Dell as a trainer for new hires and new products and Nokia as a network engineer. In his new position, Chad will be coordinating the technology components of the project, including new instructional technologies and the wireless campus initiatives.

Gonzales Rejoins Texas Wesleyan

Gonzales will represent the University in the community areas of post-secondary institutions, government entities, businesses, churches, and other organizations, presenting the University's viewpoints and encouragement of goals and objectives. Gonzales previously worked in Office of the Provost and the Office of Communications at Texas Wesleyan. He is a Wesleyan alumnus, graduating in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in mass communications. New Arrival: Alex Caleb Martinez

Congratulations to Carlos Martinez, dean of the School of Education, and his wife, Lisa, on the birth of their son, Alex Caleb Martinez, born at 11:24 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Alex weighed in at 8 lbs., 2 oz. and measured 20 inches long, with lots of hair (and no beard!). Everyone is doing well.

1 can pie filling & 1 box of pie crust

*2 lbs sugar

   or 1 cake mix & jar of frosting

2 cans chicken broth

Lecture: "Evolution vs. Creation"

Photo of Ron CarlsonRon Carlson, founder and president of Christian Ministries International, will lecture on "Evolution vs. Creation" at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Martin Hall. Carlson is recognized worldwide as one of the foremost authorities and lecturers in the areas of cults, world religions, evolution vs. creation and Christian biblical apologetics. He has traveled and lectured in 79 countries on six continents. Carlson is a graduate of Bethel University and Theological Seminary with additional studies at Jerusalem University College, Israel; University of California; and California State University, Hayward. He received his Doctor of Divinity from Northwest Graduate School of Ministry in Redmond, Washington. He is the author of two books: Fast Facts on False Teachings and Transcendental Meditation: Relaxation or Religion? The lecture, sponsored by the Chaplain's Office, is free and open to the public. Set in 1946, The Radio Show presents life behind the scenes at the TXWS Radio Station. The on-air talent and behind the scenes technicians are all characters in this period recreation of the reading of It's a Wonderful Life. The Radio Show: It's a Wonderful Life is adapted by Connie Whitt-Lambert, professor of theatre, from the film by Frank Capra and the story by Phillip Van Doren Stern. The show, featuring Theatre Wesleyan students and directed by Joe Brown, professor of theatre, runs through Nov. 10 at the Artisan Center Theater in Hurst (418 E. Pipeline Road, Hurst, TX 76053).
