     Texas Wesleyan will host graduation exercises at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Will Rogers Auditorium, 3401 W. Lancaster Ave. The precommencement robing ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Polytechnic United Methodist Church.
      John Murphey, BBA '71, will deliver the commencement address. Murphey is the Executive in Residence with the School of Business Administration and Professional Programs and a member of the Board of Trustees. Click here to read more about Murphey.


AT&T Excelerator Grant Ceremony
AT&T logoAll faculty and staff are invited to attend the check presentation ceremony for Texas Wesleyan's most recent grant award from the AT&T Foundation. Please join Dr. Harold Jeffcoat, AT&T Regional Vice President for External Affairs David Parker, State Senator Kim Brimer (R-10), and Business Dean Hector Quintanilla at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in the School of Business lobby for the presentation, short remarks, coffee and pastries. With the goal of increased student engagement, the $25,000 AT&T Excelerator Grant will support the integration of SMART classroom technology in two of our business classrooms. Recognizing this is the morning of robing, the event is not expected to last more than 30 minutes.
Hatton W. Sumners Foundation Grant

Sumners Foundation has a approved a grant to Texas Wesleyan University in the amount $17,500 to support the Sumners Fellowships for Management in Public Administration program ($12,500) and Scholarship Development activities for our Sumners Scholars program ($5,000). The fellowship support will allow eligible students the ability to accelerate through the Master in Management program, thereby positioning them to move into higher levels of government leadership over the next few years.

Christmas Reception Hosted by the Office of Admission

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Parade

Cowgirl Get your boots and cowboy hats ready. For the fourth consecutive year, Texas Wesleyan will be participating in the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Parade. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in downtown Fort Worth. If you'd like to walk/ride the parade route with the Texas Wesleyan contingent, contact parade coordinator Amy Batheja at (817) 531-7521 or email her here. Early Voting for Runoffs
Clip art of check mark - vote Voters registered by Nov. 19, regardless of whether they voted Nov. 6, can vote in the Dec. 18 runoffs to fill unexpired seats for state House District 97 and Fort Worth City Council District 9. The seven candidates in the state House race were narrowed to two Nov. 6: Democrat Dan Barrett and Republican Mark Shelton. Joel Burns and Juan Rangel Jr., who beat a field of four other candidates for Fort Worth City Council District 9 in November, advanced to the runoff. Election Day is Tuesday, Dec. 18. Early voting is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 10-14.

Mandatory Sexual Harassment Awareness and Prevention Training
Wesleyan flame logoAs defined in the University's Faculty Handbook (section 5.2) & Staff Handbook (section 7.8), Texas Wesleyan University is committed to a harassment-free work and learning environment. In compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 & Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, all University employees are expected to 1). read the Unified Harassment and Discrimination Policy and 2.) review and complete online Sexual Harassment Awareness & Prevention Training before Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. Since the sexual harassment training is web-based, employees are able to complete this training at their convenience using the Internet during normal work hours. It is estimated that it will take 30-45 minutes to fully complete the training. Click here to view log-in instructions.

More importantly, it will ensure that faculty, staff, students and guests are not subjected to inappropriate behavior. Weight Loss Challenge Winners

clip art of apple Congratulations to SkyH(i), the winners of this semester's weight loss challenge! They lost a total of 27 pounds (17.7% body percentage total). Team members are Yanette Garcia, Sharesa Alexander, Helena Bussell, and Krista Bailey. Congratulations to Helena Bussell as the individual winner, with a loss of 8.3%.

Texas Wesleyan to Compete in National Ethics Match Competition

ethics match logo Texas Wesleyan has received an invitations to go to the national competition of the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl, to be held in February in San Antonio. Thirty-two teams were invited to the finals after competing in regional contest this fall. The Wesleyan team members are Jeffrey Rodriguez (a junior political science major), Candace Curry (a senior accounting major), Brent Santos (a senior international business/finance major), and Megan Krause (a senior finance major). The sponsors/coaches are Dr. Ron McManus, professor of religion, psychology and counseling, Dr. John Shampton, professor of business and business law and Mr. Jan Fersing, member of the Texas Wesleyan Board of Trustees. The Ethics Bowl is sponsored by the Texas Independent College Foundation.

Alumni Named Chairs for Teaching Excellence

Clip art of newspaperLast week, the Fort Worth Independent School Ddistrict announced the 14 exemplary teachers who are the 2007-08 Chairs for Teaching Excellence. Two of the awardees have Texas Wesleyan University ties. Erica French teaches at Lowery Road Elementary School and graduated from Texas Wesleyan in 2000. French received the Lockheed Martin Elementary Math Chair seat. While he did not graduate from Wesleyan, Kerry Renta did take three classes here to receive his Alternative Certification as a bilingual teacher. Renta teaches at Westcliff Elementary School and was awarded the Lockheed Martin Elementary Science Chair. Each teacher holds the title for one year and receives $5,000. Teachers are nominated by principals, parents and colleagues.
