Theatre Wesleyan Presents How the Other Half Loves
Theatre Wesleyan will present How the Other Half Loves, a comedy by Alan Ayckbourn, Feb.19-24 in the Thad Smotherman Theatre on the Texas Wesleyan campus. This bedroom farce from England’s most prolific playwright centers on two couples who each attempt to cover up extramarital affairs with members of a third couple by holding a series of dinner parties – which are performed simultaneously.
How the Other Half Loves is directed by theatre professor Brynn Bristol, and features actors Alaina Appleby, Chase Burnett, Dillon Maroney, Whitney Park, Ben Phillips and Cari Watson. Student designers include Chris Hatcher, costume design; Jonathan Burns, props; Eric Briggs, lighting; Cari Watson, sound; and Dillon Maroney, assistant graphic designer. Junior Alfredo Martinez serves as assistant director, sophomore Johnny Gonzales is stage manager, and sophomore Jennye James is assistant technical director.
While the production does not contain excessive language or nudity, Bristol notes it is perhaps best suited for older audiences and “rates” it PG-13 due to the adult situations.
How the Other Half Loves opens Tuesday, Feb. 19, and runs through Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. For reservations or more information, please contact the box office at 817-531-4211 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Feb. 14. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for Wesleyan faculty and staff and $4 for students with I.D.

Call for Submissions for University College Day
The University College Day Committee encourages you to mark your calendars for the upcoming University College Day, Tuesday, April 1. Professors, please encourage your students to attend by placing this event on your spring syllabi and by releasing class on this special day of campus-wide scholarly activity. The keynote address will be at 9:30 a.m., and sessions will run from 10:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Begin planning now by 1) encouraging students who have completed interesting projects in your fall classes to submit proposals, 2) fostering UCD projects in your spring courses, and 3) arranging student/faculty collaborations.
This year’s theme is “Celebration of Scholarship.” Faculty, students and staff are encouraged to submit proposals individually or in groups (e.g. panels or roundtable discussions). Be creative! Presentation styles include but are not limited to individual scholarly papers based on completed research, Powerpoint graphics, theme-based panels, ethical debates, and class forums from current courses.
The deadline for submitting proposals via mail or email to Bruce McDonald is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29. McDonald’s office is PUMC 305, and he will have an envelope on his door for submissions. Please use the proposal form and remember to designate a 20-minute or 40-minute time for your presentation. Questions? Please contact members of the UCD Committee: Bruce McDonald, chair; Laura Hanna, Tom Klaasen, Linda Metcalf, Stacia Neeley, Stan Rummel, Tom Tolleson, and Kim Tyler.

| Joe Brown Directs Driving Miss Daisy
Joe Brown, professor of theatre at Texas Wesleyan, will direct Artisan Center Theater’s production of Driving Miss Daisy, which runs until Saturday, March 1.
Set in mid-20th-century Atlanta, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of an elderly Jewish matron, Daisy Werthan, and her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. At first, Daisy is none too happy about being forced to rely on a black man. But Hoke gradually wins her over, and during the 25-year span of the play the two develop a deep-rooted affection. Driving Miss Daisy is a delicate depiction of racial tensions and of growing old. Playwright Alfred Uhry has created two outsiders who come to a mutual respect based on their independence, strength, and stubborn integrity.
For more information about tickets and showtimes, visit Artisan Center Theater's web site. Reservations are recommended.
