President’s Honors Concert Showcases University's Top Musical Talents
Texas Wesleyan University’s top music students will share their vocal and instrumental talents during the President’s Honors Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in Martin Hall, 1309 Wesleyan St. This year's array of performers is spread across a wide musical spectrum, with five singers, and one each on flute, guitar, piano, saxophone, and clarinet. They were selected by an independent panel of three judges hired for the occasion.
While seven out of this year's ten performers are taken from the department's Attainment (junior/senior) Division, one sophomore and two freshmen also made the cut. One of the freshmen, Eastern Hills High School clarinetist Brandon Wheaton, will lead off the evening. Wheaton is a superb talent who in one semester has blossomed immensely, and well deserves his place on the program. The other freshman is Northwest High School alto saxophonist Jameson Williams, another big talent, who plans to complete a music education degree. The lone sophomore is soprano Leticia Michael from Carter-Riverside High School. Four of her upper-division colleagues are making repeat appearances: Karen Garcia on piano, Danielle Martz on flute, soprano Stephanie Darbo, and coloratura soprano Andrea Talladino. The others, guitarist Roman Coronado, baritone Jonah Copeland, and soprano Janna McKinley, are making their Honors Concert debuts.
Bill Bleibdrey, senior vice president for finance and administration, will serve as master of ceremonies. Janie Faris, BMEd '77 MA '83 and Evan Faris, BA '76, will serve as co-hosts of the event, along with President Harold and Marie Jeffcoat. Admission is free and valet parking is available. Business attire preferred. To RSVP for the event, call 817-531-4401.

Theatre Wesleyan Presents How the Other Half Loves
Theatre Wesleyan will present How the Other Half Loves, a comedy by Alan Ayckbourn, Feb.19-24 in the Thad Smotherman Theatre on the Texas Wesleyan campus. This bedroom farce from England’s most prolific playwright centers on two couples who each attempt to cover up extramarital affairs with members of a third couple by holding a series of dinner parties – which are performed simultaneously.
How the Other Half Loves is directed by theatre professor Brynn Bristol, and features actors Alaina Appleby, Chase Burnett, Dillon Maroney, Whitney Park, Ben Phillips and Cari Watson. Student designers include Chris Hatcher, costume design; Jonathan Burns, props; Eric Briggs, lighting; Cari Watson, sound; and Dillon Maroney, assistant graphic designer. Junior Alfredo Martinez serves as assistant director, sophomore Johnny Gonzales is stage manager, and sophomore Jennye James is assistant technical director.
While the production does not contain excessive language or nudity, Bristol notes it is perhaps best suited for older audiences and “rates” it PG-13 due to the adult situations.
How the Other Half Loves opens Tuesday, Feb. 19, and runs through Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. For reservations or more information, please contact the box office at 817-531-4211 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Feb. 14. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for Wesleyan faculty and staff and $4 for students with I.D.

| Joe Brown Directs Driving Miss Daisy
Joe Brown, professor of theatre at Texas Wesleyan, will direct Artisan Center Theater’s production of Driving Miss Daisy, which runs from Friday, Feb. 8, to Saturday, March 1.
Set in mid-20th-century Atlanta, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of an elderly Jewish matron, Daisy Werthan, and her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. At first, Daisy is none too happy about being forced to rely on a black man. But Hoke gradually wins her over, and during the 25-year span of the play the two develop a deep-rooted affection. Driving Miss Daisy is a delicate depiction of racial tensions and of growing old. Playwright Alfred Uhry has created two outsiders who come to a mutual respect based on their independence, strength, and stubborn integrity.
For more information about tickets and showtimes, visit Artisan Center Theater's web site. Reservations are recommended. Driving Miss Daisy will be interpreted by deaf and hard of hearing by Tarrant County College Practicum Students on Monday, Feb. 11.
