President’s Honors Concert Puts Spotlight on Top Music Students
 The musical talents of Texas Wesleyan’s top music students will be showcased during the President’s Honors Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Martin Hall, 1309 Wesleyan St. The concert will be emceed by Dr. Lamar Smith, ’50, HON ’65, and will feature nine performances in a variety of
classical vocal and instrumental pieces. Three seniors are among the honored students: Eric Medlock, baritone, will perform "Warm as the Autumn Light" from The Ballad of Baby Doe; Mark Appling will perform Mauro Giuliani's "Grand Overture" on guitar; and soprano Stephanie Kelly will perform "Où va, la jeune Indoue (Indian Bell Song)" from Lakmé. Louella Baker Martin Pavilion Now Open
The Louella Baker Martin Pavilion is now open and available for use by campus groups. The pavilion, adjacent to the Baker-Martin House, is a 3,500 square-foot building designed for University functions, including receptions. When used for dining, the facility seats 144 people. New Master's Degree Offered in School of Business Administration
 The Texas Wesleyan School of Business Administration and Professional Programs began offering a new master's degree this semester: the Master in Management. Fifteen students are enrolled and all are pursuing the public administration track. All 15 of these students are with the City of Fort Worth, which set aside $25,000 last semester and this semester to cover the cost of tuition, fees and books. The program appears to have a bright future with the public and private sector, as all of these organizations are looking for specific training to prepare their future managers and leaders. Student-Centered Practices Workshop Feb. 9
The Office of the Provost will host a workshop presented by Dr. Kim Rynearson of Tarleton State University. The workshop, from 12 to 12:55 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, will cover practical applications of student-centered instruction in the university classroom. The event will be held in the Betty and Bobby Bragan Fellowship Hall. A light lunch will be provided for all in attendance.

Faculty Recital: Julie Whittington McCoy
Julie Whittington McCoy, soprano, will perform a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, titled “Sometimes I Feel,” accompanied by pianist Mark Stamper and Terri Sundberg on alto flute. The event will be presented in Martin Hall and is free and open to the public.
The program will include Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, a James Agee portrait in which the narrator describes sitting on the lawn with his family as a child; Alabado, a passion scene in Spanish by James Santa Fe Galloway; and some selected American spirituals. McCoy, whose philosophy is that classical music is not “precious or something that only certain people can understand or relate to,” will follow last year’s masterful and well-received faculty recital.

The 52nd Annual American Music Concert Features Wesleyan Alumni, Professors, Students
The Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter and the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity will present the 52nd Annual American Music Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the sanctuary of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, 4200 Camp Bowie Blvd. The concert features music from American Composers performed by Texas Wesleyan alumni, professors and students.
Sue Burrato and Julie McCoy will sing. Alice Walker ’84, the Minister of Music at Arlington Heights, will perform. Two other organists – Elaine Garvin ’70 and Fran Kerlin ’58 – and soprano Carla White ’87 will also perform. Admission is free and a reception will follow in the atrium of the church. February Chapel Speakers
Chapel is held every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Polytechnic Unitd Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to participate and hear the following speakers during the month of February: Feb. 13 - Katie Meeks, Hispanic Ministries; Feb. 20 - Jason Valendy; Feb. 27 - Dr. Jesse Sowell.

Graduate School of Education Open Houses
The School of Education will host two open houses where potential students can learn more about the graduate program offerings. At the Burleson site from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, students can find out information about classes towards a principalship certificate or a master of science in school counseling. On the main campus in Dan Waggoner Hall from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, information will be available on all graduate programs offered in education and counseling at Texas Wesleyan. GSA Presentation: The Diseases of "Love"
The Texas Wesleyan Gay Straight Alliance will host a presentation on HIV, AIDS, and STDs during free period Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the Betty and Bobby Bragan Fellowship Hall. Guest speakers will discuss these diseases of "love" and there will be a quilt piece from the NAMES Project. The NAMES Project is an international program that maintains memorial quilts made to honor those lost to AIDS. Refreshments and a pizza lunch will also be served. The Gay Straight Alliance meets every Friday at noon in the Nenetta Burton Carter Building. |

Texas Wesleyan University's Office of Admission is hosting an Open House beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Nurse Anesthesia Building, 1000 Wesleyan St. Information will be available regarding the admission process, financial aid, housing, and academic programs. A free continental breakfast and campus tours will also be provided. All prospective freshman and transfer students interested in Texas Wesleyan are encouraged to attend the Open House!
