Frederic White Appointed as New Dean of the Law School

Photo of Frederic WhiteTexas Wesleyan University School of Law announces the appointment of Frederic White as the new dean of the law school. “It is my pleasure to be asked to join in fulfilling the mission of Texas Wesleyan Law, a ‘young’ law school that already has a fine faculty and staff, great students and supportive alumni and friends,” Dean White said. “I hope to help continue Texas Wesleyan’s traditions of excellence in scholarship, teaching and service to the legal community.”

     White, who will be the first African-American dean at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, will be the fifth dean of the law school and will succeed Interim Dean and Professor Cynthia Fountaine. White is currently the dean of Golden Gate Law School in San Francisco, a position he has held since January 2004. He received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law and his B.A. from Columbia College. Admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1973, White has experience as an associate dean and professor of law at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. His scholarship focuses on property, wills and trusts, real estate law, land use control, local government law, and administrative law.

McLain Returns to Texas Wesleyan as Director of Major Gifts

Photo of Mac McLainLouis “Mac” McLain has returned to Texas Wesleyan University as director of major gifts, effective April 1. He will be responsible for soliciting major gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals. Prior his return, McLain served as executive vice president and chief investment officer for Rogers Capital Management, Inc. and then as managing director of Trinity Fiduciary Partners, LLC - both Fort Worth-based registered investment advisory firms. He continues to run Trinity Fiduciary’s High Quality Growth Equity Strategy. From 1976 to 2005, McLain served the University in various capacities, including dean of the School of Business, chief investment officer, and as a faculty member of the School of Business. He is active on a number of local boards including the Texas Independent College Foundation (treasurer); the Fort Worth Chamber Foundation, Inc. (vice chairman); the East Area Council of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce (past chairman), and the Breakfast Club of Fort Worth (past president). He remains an active member of the Rotary Club of Fort Worth as chairman of the Endowment Committee. He is also a past president of that club. McLain holds B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Southern Methodist University and received his CFA charter in 1985.

Duisen Duo Performing Wednesday, April 2

G clefThe Duisen Duo, comprised of violinist Ordabek Duisen and his sister Dina, will play a recital of music for solo violin and piano by Mozart, Franck, Bartok and Busilovsky at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Martin Hall. Dina is currently the accompanist for adjunct Texas Wesleyan music faculty member Joe Davisson. She and her brother are natives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and have played many concerts together in various parts of the world. The concert is free and open to the public. Relay for Life Fundraisers: Jeans Day and $3 Lunch - April 3

Relay for Life logoStudent Life is sponsoring a Jeans Day on Thursday, April 3, to help the Texas Wesleyan Relay for Life Team raise money. Donate $5, and you'll get a ticket showing that you are eligible to wear jeans.

     Gamma Sigma Sigma will be selling hot dogs, chips and a drink for $3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, outside the SUB to raise money for the Relay for Life. Forum: Innovative Teaching with Technology
Wesleyan flame logoAs new technologies are introduced into the classroom, instructors are empowered to tailor their instruction to the needs of students and connect the classroom to the world outside. Join Chitra Chandrasekaran, associate professor of biology, and Mary Anne Clark, professor of biology, on Tuesday, April 8, as they demonstrate some of these new instructional possibilities. Topics will include how bioinformatics technology is used as a collaborative instructional tool, and the use of interactive communities (such as Second Life) in education.

     This Provost Professional Development Forum event will be held from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in room 108 of the Schollmaier Science and Technology Center. Lunch will be provided for all in attendance. Please RSVP to Krista Hughes at khughes@txwes.edu by Thursday, April 3.

Alumni Invitational Recital

G clefTexas Wesleyan Music Department alumni Ryan Strittmatter, '02, and Stan Graner, '81, will once again grace Martin Hall with their beautiful music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3. This hour-long concert will feature Strittmatter on classical guitar, performing several exciting and beloved pieces from the guitar repertoire, including Romance de Los Piños and Malaguena by Ernesto Lecuona, as arranged by Texas Wesleyan adjunct music instructor Michael Dailey. Graner, tenor, will perform several popular selections, including “Bon Voyage” from Anything Goes and “Sail Away.” His accompanist will be Terry Dobson, musical director at Theatre Three in Dallas. Presentation: Differentiating Instruction for English Language Learners

photo of Jill MoraTexas Wesleyan will host guest speaker Jill Kerper Mora of San Diego State University for a presentation, "Differentiating Instruction for English Language Learners: The 4 X 4 Model of Integrated Thematic Language and Content Instruction." This professional development opportunity will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Louella Baker Martin Pavilion. The presentation will cover:

  • How L2 oral language and literacy develops for ELLs across ages
  • Research on different rates of development of listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Designing curriculum, classroom instructional strategies and activities according to students’ levels of English proficiency and literacy achievement

Mitchell-Reed Lecture Series

Wesleyan flame logoThe next Mitchell-Reed Community of Learners lecture will be from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the Orientation Room of the West Library. Bobby Deaton, professor of physics, will present "An Analysis of Adobe Walls and Pottery from an Ancient Pueblo Village in New Mexico," a mostly non-technical look at geoarcheology. Please join us for this interesting and informative discussion. Beverages and cookies will be provided by the Provost's Office, co-sponsors of the Mitchell-Reed Community of Learners lecture series; attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.

Theatre Wesleyan Presents the 54th Annual Spring Musical, Little Me

photo of Little Me productionTheatre Wesleyan continues its long history of musical production with the 54th Annual Spring Musical Little Me, to be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 10-12 and 17-19, and at 2 p.m. April 13 and 20. Little Me features music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Carolyn Leigh and book by Neil Simon. In this musical comedy, Belle Poitrine tells the story of her quest for wealth, culture, and social position through her intimate memoirs. In each adventure Belle is accompanied by an admiring male who helps bring her one step closer to achieving her goals.

    Little Me is directed and choreographed by guest artist Joel Ferrell with musical direction by Aimee Hurst. Little Me will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 10-12 and 17-19; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13 and 20. For reservations or more information, please contact the box office at 817-531-4211 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $6 for Wesleyan faculty and staff and $5 for students with I.D. There is also a limited number of special table seating available.

Texas Wesleyan Student Featured in April Newsletter of the Fort Worth TSCPA

Photo of Justin Lytle Justin Lytle, junior accounting major at Texas Wesleyan, is featured in the latest edition of the newsletter for the Fort Worth Chapter of the Texas Society for Certified Professional Accountants. Lytle tells about his upcoming internship at XTO Energy, "I can’t wait...It will be a great opportunity for me to learn accounting practices in a real-world setting. Rams Extend Winning Streak to Twelve Games; Remain Perfect in Conference Play

The 22nd-ranked Texas Wesleyan baseball team (23-8) completed a three-game series sweep of Paul Quinn College (7-28, 1-5 RRAC) by taking both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday. With the two wins, the Rams remained perfect in Red River Athletic Conference play at 6-0 while running their current winning streak to twelve games. The Rams took game one by a score of 8-0.  Brandon Frazier led the game off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Zach Smith. That was all the support Stephen DeFratus required.  DeFratus (5-2) tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits across seven innings while striking out seven Tigers. The Rams poured in on late in game two to take a 14-1 win.
