School of Education News
Carlos Martinez, dean of the School of Education, is proud to announce that the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) visit to the School of Education’s educator preparation program “went extremely well.” There were no findings that require a follow-up response or report but there were a few recommendations that will be formally considered by the department.
In preparation for the visit, the faculty and staff were required to complete an extensive self-report that was returned to TEA prior to the visit. The two TEA representatives met with faculty and staff, reviewed files and procedures, and made multiple visits to school campuses to interview Texas Wesleyan interns and their supervising teachers.
Martinez has credited the success of this visit to “Department Chair Lisa Dryden's leadership, the faculty and their effort in producing a well written self-report, and the work of the staff (Dawn Jarvis, Gail Stewart, and Bobbie Price) who organized the visit and put together all the required documentation. Moreover, the success of this visit was due mostly to a well-organized department that delivers quality programs in systematic ways.”
Lorrie Webb, assistant professor of education, presented a paper, “Technology Integration by New Teachers: Do Attitudes Play a Part?” at the Texas Computer Education Association annual conference in Austin. Webb presented another paper, “Technology Integration by New Teachers: Is College Preparing Our Future Educators?” at the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education International Conference in San Antonio.
Congratulations to Donald Spinks, graduate psychology instructor in the Counseling Program, who has earned his Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. Spinks obtained his B.S. from Texas Wesleyan University, his Master of Theology from Southern Methodist University, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.
