"The Remnant" Conference, Scholarship Presentation

Clip art of two hands exchanging a piece of paper All faculty and staff are invited to attend a conference at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, to present scholarship funds to a deserving inner city incoming Texas Wesleyan student for the 2007-2008 school year and inspire students in the community to further their education. "The Remnant" conference, to be held in the Louella Baker Martin Pavilion, is co-sponsored with Student Life and Crowns of Glory ministry, a local non-profit organization that does work within the community. Tickets are $15, $10 with a student ID. Refereshments will be served. Proceeds from tickets sales will go towards future scholarships. Birthday Party for Scott Methvin

Wesleyan flame logoPlease join the counseling office in the Dan Waggoner Annex at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, for a birthday party for Scott Methvin, University counselor. The party originally was a birthday and farewell event, but Methvin has decided to stay at Texas Wesleyan. He has accepted the position of clinic director for the new Glick House Community Counseling Center.

Hazinski to Compete at Pan-American Games and World Championship

Photo of Mark HazinskiMark Hazinski, varsity table tennis player for Texas Wesleyan, will compete with the U.S. Team in the Pan-American Games, to be held in Rio de Janeiro July 22-28. Hazinski will also compete at the Table Tennis World Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, May 21-27.

     Hazinski is a freshman business major at Texas Wesleyan. He won the Open Singles title in Texas Wesleyan's September and October Opens, as well as the Austin Fall Open. “Haz” was a 2004 Olympian, eight-time Junior Olympian gold medalist, and five-time under-22 year-old U.S. singles champion. He is a two-time U.S. Doubles champion, two-time U.S. Singles finalist, and 2003 USA Table Tennis Player of the Year.

Wesleyan Volleyball Camp June 18-21

clip art of volleyball player The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team is offering three summer camps in 2007. The camps are a great opportunity for players in grades 7-12 to improve their skill and receive instruction from collegiate coaches and players. The All-Skills Camp (June 18-19) is geared for grades 7-12, while the Defensive Clinic and Hitter/Setter Clinic (June 21) is geared for grades 9-12.

     Players will receive instruction from Lady Rams players and coaches, including head coach Christy Clawson, who coached Texas Wesleyan to a 20-10 record in her first season. Clawson also coached three All-Red River Athletic Conference selections, two All-Region VI selections, and one All-American selection in 2006.

     The All-Skills Camp costs $100 while the Defensive and Hitter/Setter Clinics cost $50. There is a $15 late fee for those who register after May 31. Contact Christy Clawson at cclawson@txwes.edu or (817) 531-4850 for more information or visit www.txwes.edu/athletics for registration.

Summer Youth Basketball Camp

Rams logoAll children ages 6-16 are invited to participate in the 2007 Youth Basketball Camp, sponsored by the Men's Basketball team. Sign-up forms are available in Coach Brennen Shingleton's or Coach AAron Whaley's office. It's going to be a great week of fun-filled basketball here at Texas Wesleyan in the Sid Richardson Center! Along with all the basketball drills and instruction, we offer our campers the chance to enjoy our indoor swimming pool as well. Each camper will receive a T-shirt and basketball along with other men's basketball apparel at the end of each day.
