Texas Wesleyan Baseball Team Wins First Conference Championship in 28 Years
After dispatching Houston Baptist University (35-17) 8-7 in a thrilling semifinal contest, the Texas Wesleyan University Rams (39-8) came from behind in the ninth inning to top Wiley College and take their first conference championship in 28 years. "I have never seen a group of young men more determined to win a game," commented head coach Mike Jeffcoat after the title game. "They willed themselves to win that game. They believed and they never gave up."
The championship is the team's first conference title since winning the Texoma Conference in 1979. Their 39 wins also marks the most since the Rams won 39-15 in 1995. Hayden Lackey (4-1) earned the win after striking out one and allowing no runs in 2.2 innings pitched. Josh Vander Hey led the Rams by going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. By winning the conference title, the Rams have secured a spot in the Region VI tournament, which runs May 8-11 in Houston.

Mother's Day All-Bach Piano Recital
Bruce McDonald, visiting assistant professor of philosophy and religion, and John Fisher, professor of music, will perform an all-Bach piano recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 13, in the sanctuary of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church. This Mother's Day concert is free an open to the public. Johann Sebastian Bach wrote several suites for keyboard and stringed instruments, and the particular collection which became known as the English Suites dates from his Weimar (1708-1714) period, preceding the French Suites and Partitas and comprising, in total, the first part of the Clacierubung (Keyboard Practice). The English Suite No. 5 in E minor, which McDonald will perform, displays the widest range of moods between each of the movements, with a robust prelude and gigue sandwiching a delightful miniature-like allemande, a stately courante and a charming pair of passpieds, one “en rondeau.” John Fisher will perform Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major, S. 825, and the concert will conclude with Concerti for Two Keyboards in C Minor. Arlington Heights UMC is located at 4200 Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth. For more information, please call the church office at (817) 737-3161 or email ahumc@ahumc.com.
