Free Tickets Available for Faith Night with the Fort Worth Cats June 16

baseball cap Texas Wesleyan is sponsoring three Faith Nights with the Fort Worth Cats this summer, and free tickets are now available for the first night, Friday, June 16. Shaun Groves will perform a pre-game concert, and the game, versus the Pensacola Pelicans, begins at 7:05 p.m. Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato from VeggieTales will also make an appearance. 10 pairs of tickets are available through the Office of Communications on a first-come, first-serve basis. Spellbinders Annual Speak-Off June 17

woman giving a speech The Texas Wesleyan Spellbinders will be holding its Annual Speak-Off from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, June 17, in Martin Hall. The Spellbinders is an affiliate club of Toastmasters International, a group that helps people develop public speaking and leadership skills through practice and feedback. Anyone interested in seeing what opportunities Toastmasters has to offer may attend the Speak-Off. Toastmasters from the Texas Wesleyan Spellbinders club and other clubs will present speeches of a varying nature. 2006 Summer Chemistry Camp for Kids

Willy the Chemistry RamJune 5th marked the beginning of The 2006 Summer Chemistry Camp for Kids, directed by chemistry professor Ric Rodriguez and funded with $7,000 from The Gil and Dody Weaver Foundation of Dallas. The program, which runs through June 23, brings 84 fourth- and fifth-grade Fort Worth ISD students onto the Texas Wesleyan campus for three weeks. The all-day camp is free to the students, who will spend three weeks studying chemistry, physics and aerodynamics. This is the 14th year that the camp has been offered.

Texas Wesleyan Alumni and Staff in the News

Wesleyan flame logoDaphne Brookins, '01, president-elect of the Alumni Board of Directors, was listed in the June 5-11 edition of the Fort Worth Business Press as one of the 2006 Forty Under Forty honorees. The annual list recognizes forty of the biggest rising stars in the world of Fort Worth business. Brookins is a relocation specialist with the Fort Worth Housing Authority. Brett Thomas, assistant coach for Texas Wesleyan's baseball team, was also named to the Forty Under Forty list. Thomas owns Dos Gringos Mexican Restaurant and a real estate investment firm, Fort Worth Living.
