Men's Basketball Team Receives White House Recognition

Head coach Terry Waldrop received a letter of congratulations from President George W. Bush for the Rams' NAIA Division I Championship. The letter is the latest in a series of awards and honors the team has received, including resolutions and proclamations from two city councils, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, the Texas State Senate, and the United States Congress. Accounts Payable and Student Refunds Summer Schedule

Wesleyan flame logoThe temporary cut off times for processing accounts payable and student refunds begins June 5 and ends July 28. The temporary accounts payable and student refunds cut off  time is noon on Tuesday. Accounts payable and student refund checks will be available on Thursday by 8:30 a.m. The normal schedule will resume July 31, 2006.

Miranda Receives Funding from Fetzer Foundation

Wesleyan flame logoCongratulations to Dr. Twyla Miranda, professor of education and director of graduate studies in education, on her award from the Fetzer Foundation. Miranda's proposal, "The Effects of Transformative Professional Development on Report Card Ratings and Organizational Cultures of Texas Schools," has been approved for funding in the amount of $75,500 for a three-year period. The Fetzer Foundation has also set aside an additional amount up to $1,000 to support the data analysis and any purchase of supplies or software to support her work with the additional measures that were negotiated post-submission.

Archer, Harrison Named All-American

Rams logoThe NAIA has released its 2006 Baseball American team, and Texas Wesleyan University’s Zach Archer and Shea Harrison were among those honored. The team’s top hitter and pitcher, Archer and Harrison led the Rams to their third 30-win season in four years (31-23) and a were named Honorable Mention All-American for their performance.

     Archer, a senior outfielder from Fort Worth, is the school’s all-time leading hitter with a .406 career average, surpassing Pat Hannon’s mark of .401 (97-00).

     This season, Archer led the team with a .402 average, 70 hits, and 18 doubles. In March, he recorded a career-best 13-game hitting streak, hitting .468 with 12 RBI. He closed out his career by matching that 13-game hitting streak. In his last 13 games, which include seven RRAC and Region VI tournament games, Archer hit .417 (20-of-48) with 16 RBI, 5 doubles, and 17 runs scored.

     Harrison, a senior left-handed pitcher from Arlington, was a four-year letterman and two-time All-RRAC selection at Texas Wesleyan. In 54 career appearances, including 44 starts, he holds an overall record of 25-13 while posting a 3.97 ERA. He also racked up 11 complete games and 234 strikeouts in 256.1 innings pitched.

     This season, Harrison set career-bests with a 2.93 ERA, 15 appearances, two shutouts, 89 innings, 80 strikeouts, and just seven walks. For his efforts he was named RRAC Pitcher of the Year. In February and March, he had a streak of 21 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. He began the season with an ERA of 0.42 in his first eight appearances, allowing just two earned runs in 43.1 innings pitched. In his final regular season series, Harrison struck out a career-high 13 in game one, and recorded his first career hit, a sharp single to center, in game three.
