Staff Clean Up Day
Wesleyan flame logoFriday, August 4, is Staff Clean Up Day – volunteers can wear shorts, eat a free lunch, and go home early! To help prepare the campus for the fall semester, staff members are invited to volunteer for the Clean Up Day. Jobs include raking, painting, sweeping, picking up trash, and trimming low branches. Limited Engagement of The Club at Texas Wesleyan

Cast photo of The ClubCome to the The Club and enjoy a musical diversion by Eve Merriam. Directed by Texas Wesleyan’s Joe A. Brown and set inside an exclusive turn-of-the-19th-century gentleman’s club, this production gives you the chance to hear what these men love – and hate – about the women in their lives, all expressed through the songs of their day.

 But the show has a big twist: All the “gentlemen” are played by women. The cast includes Cindy Almond, Jan Gleaves, Pam Goodman, Whitney Park, Connie Sanchez, Quenby Seter and Trich Zaitoon.

     This tongue-in-cheek production is presented by A to Z Girls Productions, LLC and Texas Wesleyan University Department of Theatre, by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. It is only the second production of “The Club” ever produced in this area. Renee Morris is choreographer and assistant director, Neil Mowles is musical director.

     The show’s limited run will play July 28-30 and August 4-6 at the Thad Smotherman Theatre, located in the Law Sone Fine Arts Building, 1205 Binkley, on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

     Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students (with ID) and are expected to sell quickly since the run is limited. Discounted rates are available for groups of 15 or more. Tickets can be reserved by calling (817) 531-4211. 

Grant Awarded to Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia

Congratulations to John Martin and the Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia for their recent award of $42,231 from the Health Resources and Services Administration for Advanced Education Nursing Traineeships. Traineeship funds are awarded only to students during their first year of the master's program and can be used to support the costs of tuition, books, and fees of the program.
Jasna Reed Featured in USA Table Tennis
Table tennis ramJasna Reed, a graduate student in education at Texas Wesleyan and U.S. National and Collegiate Table Tennis Champion, is featured on the cover and interviewed in the July/August edition of USA Table Tennis. Reed holds several national and international titles, including a bronze medal from the 1988 Olympics. Along with Keith Evans, Reed is Head Coach of the Texas Wesleyan table tennis team, which won its second consecutive National Collegiate Table Tennis Championship in April. Alumni Star in The Wizard of Oz
The Yellow Brick RoadThere may be no place like home for Dorothy, but there’s no place like Texas Wesleyan for several cast and crew members of Graham Regional Theatre’s The Wizard of Oz. Emily Skipper, daughter of Anne Skipper, BA ’78, and Mike Skipper, BA ’78, plays Dorothy. Evan Faris, BMEd ’76 is Professor Marvel/The Wizard, and Janie Faris, BMEd ’77, MAEd ’83 and member of the Board of Trustees, is also in the cast. Musical direction and choreography is by Stephanie Sanders, BA ‘01. The Wizard of Oz runs July 28-30 at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Alumnus Named Teacher of the Year

Robert Smith, MEd '01, was recently named Teacher of the Year at Kirkpatrick Middle School in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Smith teaches ESL, among other subjects, at the school.
